POEM

“For years, 

I quietly grew,

slowly making new buds,

tenderly opening their blossoms.

And then, one day,

Seeing my outstretched petals 

finding light 

where I had never been before,

I became aware that  

I had quietly broken through my cage. 

In the soft shadows of morning light

I realized 

that I could never shrink again, 

never close my petals

within the walls 

that someone once 

made me believe 

were my edges,

never forget 

what it felt like to cascade beyond the borders of what I had known,

to lift my heart to the sun 

and soak in

the majesty

Of this new and wild blossoming.”
