POEM

“Today I sat

with all the broken things

around me,

and I asked myself,

how will I dance

among these shards of glass?

And though my past

showed me

no truth of the answer,

my heart knew the way.

One step at a time,

tiptoeing at first,

I let my spirit lift me,

until each step knew

where to place itself.

Soon I was twirling in the wreckage,

tuned to the light within,

and the grace of my step

so assured

that it always found

safe landing.

It was there, in that trance,

in that solid stance

of my own simple making,

that I came to understand

the truth -

that no amount of brokenness

can ever stop us from dancing,

no shattering can dissuade the grace

of a pure heart

stepping toward hope.”
